Best known for: unoaked, bright approachable red bordeaux
Available for The Wine Station: Chateau du Pin 2009
We have found a lovely, quite sizeable (65 hectares) family-owned estate with a fascinating history. Initially owned by the Du Pin family, several rapid exchanges of ownership occurred to pay and re-pay debts. Since 1886 the Ballan family has owned the chateau since & is currently run by their great, great granddaughter Claudette & her husband Jean-Marie Constans. The average age of the vines are 30 years and most refreshingly this wine has no oak, making it fresh, bright and an approachable entry into Bordeaux.
