Located in the small village of Rivesaltes, in the Roussillon, Domaine Cazes produces a wonderful range of biodynamic wines; ranging from the quaffing Le Canon du Maréchal to the rare Vin Doux naturel Rivesaltes Ambré aged in open tank for more than 7 years.
Winemaker Emmanuel Cazes’ great grandfather Aimé Cazes started Domaine Cazes. The land was originally, like much of the area, used for growing fruit. It was in the 1960s when vines were first planted and subsequently converted to biodynamic practices in 1997. Their desire to be recognised as biodynamically certified is significant with certification granted in many countries not least the very strict Switzerland, further, unlike many other ‘biodynamic producers’, both Cazes’ vineyards & production are certified. With the introduction of biodynamic practices in the vineyard & companion planting, Emmanuel has seen a dramatic improvement in soil health & more consistent & earlier harvest & brighter, fresher fruit.
