Situated on a gentle slope on the south west of Red Hill South, Point Leo Road Vineyard has been ticking along quietly since 1996. While much of their fruit has been sold to top producers in the region, PLR are keeping more fruit back themselves. They have embraced lagrein (grape from northern Italy, partic. Alto Adige) which appears extremely well suited to their site & have just launched their first gewürztraminer. Chardonnay and Pinot are what I call the old-style Mornington (ie RESTRAINED) with elegance & charm. Most impressive are their sparklings –made by the traditional method & remain on lees for 24-48 months before disgorgement.
